Bed Bugs

By Noelle, Barganier, Creative Connect Intern

This piece is called Bed Bugs. It is made out of metal that has been welded together to form a bedframe with a handsewn pinstripe bedspread with stuffing for the pillows. There are metal wire spiders, as well as air dry clay for the figure done with acrylic paint on top. It is inspired by an experience that I had when I was younger. I was in my bunk bed on the top bunk trying to sleep when I felt something on my face. I went to touch it and wipe it away when I realized it was a baby spider. I thought it had to have come from the ceiling. When I looked up and saw a ton of baby spiders and the mother right over my head. The spiders kept dropping and dispersing, and crawling all over me. I was afraid at the moment but that memory has really stuck out to me. When researching more into that experience I read that spiders hold significance with rebirth and new beginnings. Spiders are also figures of creativity and protection. I chose to look on that experience as something positive and a signal for change but can’t deny, at the moment I was very afraid of little baby spiders.
