We haven’t been able to print an issue yet this year because of funding. We wanted to say that plainly, and also say this: we haven’t stopped believing in paper.
We still choose print because some stories ask to be held, not scrolled past. If we were sitting with you right now, we wouldn’t send a link. We’d place a magazine in your hands.
We Choose Paper
There’s something honest about print. It doesn’t glow. It doesn’t buzz. It just waits.
When you hold Art from Ashes Magazine, you’re holding more than pages. You’re holding voices from our community — stories shaped by struggle, courage, memory, and hope. Paper asks for your presence in a different way. It lets a story arrive slowly.
Here’s Why
The experience of reading in print is physical and grounding. You feel the weight of it. You notice the texture of the page. You hear that soft thrum when you turn it. Maybe you read a poem twice. Maybe you pause at a photograph longer than you expected.
That slowing down matters to us. In a world full of noise, paper gives us a small place to breathe. It lets the work live with you for a while: on a table, in a bag, beside your bed, passed from one set of hands to another.
Here’s What It Means
Paper also changes the way community feels. When a contributor sees their work in print, there is a quiet dignity in it: I am here. This happened. This matters.
