The Sunday Night Message
It was late on a Sunday evening when two donations arrived within minutes of one another.
At first, nothing seemed unusual. Sometimes technology hiccups. Sometimes people click twice. A few moments later, a message appeared. The donor had realized she had forgotten to send her monthly gift the month before. She wanted to catch up. That was it. No campaign had prompted her. No reminder email had landed in her inbox. No countdown clock warned that time was running out. She had simply remembered.
There was something profoundly human about that moment. For a few minutes, we found ourselves thinking less about the gifts themselves and more about what had happened before she ever opened her computer. Somewhere in the ordinary rhythm of a Sunday evening, CityHeART crossed her mind. She remembered a commitment she had made, not because software reminded her to give, but because this community had become part of her own story.
That is a different kind of generosity. Most fundraising is built around reminders.
What happened on Sunday reminded us that the deepest generosity often begins somewhere else. It begins with relationship. When someone remembers to give without being asked, they are not simply remembering a transaction. They are remembering people. They are remembering conversations around a table, neighbors they have met, stories they have heard, and a community they have chosen to help sustain.
At CityHeART, our mission is to invest in your story. Every day, our Resource Hub fills with ordinary moments that rarely make it into annual reports, because transactions require reminders and relationships create memories.

When we talk about investing in stories, we are not only talking about the stories of the neighbors who walk through our doors. We are also talking about the stories of the volunteers who refill the bird feeder, wash the dishes, pack the groceries, walk the neighbor’s dog while she recovers from surgery, facilitate the support groups, and all the quiet investments made along the way.
To the donor who quietly sent two gifts and a simple message on Sunday evening, thank you. You reminded us that the most meaningful generosity is not measured by the size of a gift. It is measured by the depth of a relationship. If you have been looking for a place where your generosity can become part of an ongoing story instead of a one-time transaction, we would love to welcome you. After all, the strongest communities are not built by people who simply remember to give. They are built by people who remember one another.
