Ruben Gutierrez is a kind-hearted, go-getter entrepreneur and die-hard Raiders fan. Ruben is 51 years old and has been experiencing homelessness in Long Beach for more than 5 years, living out of a car his brother gave him and picking up odd jobs wherever he can. Currently, Ruben hangs around the northern part of the 5th district and started a fluff and fold operation at a local Long Beach laundromat. While Ruben is currently waiting to hear back from the LB Multi Service Center about a housing voucher, he is raising money to work on his car. Ruben is excited about the Street HeART paper program, which will give him the opportunity to not only fix his car, but thrive.
Ruben is the first official ambassador of the CityHeART street paper, called the Street HeART Monthly. His goal is to sell 500 copies of the Street HeART Monthly in the next 3-6 months so that he can use the funds he raises to repair his car while he navigates housing services with the outreach team.
Stay tuned inside the CityHeARTLove App for Ruben’s distribution location so you can stop by and support his fundraiser by buying a copy of this month’s Street HeART Monthly.
