LONG BEACH, CALIF. — Century Villages at Cabrillo has appointed Kimberly Wee as its next executive director, effective Monday, August 21. Steve Colman, the current executive director, has announced his retirement after more than 20 years of dedicated service to Century Housing and Century Villages at Cabrillo (CVC), including 10 years in his present role. His last day at CVC will be Friday, August 18.

Below, newly appointed Century Villages at Cabrillo Executive Director Kim Wee talks with Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson about the state of homelessness in the city.

“I have a great passion for the work we have done and will continue to do at the Villages and take great pride in all we have accomplished together,” said Mr. Colman. “There is still much more than needs to be done to address the ongoing lack of decent and affordable housing. I am confident that our leadership team will continue to make wise choices and champion collective impact for the benefit of our residents.”

During Mr. Colman’s tenure, the Villages expanded in size and the scope of its services. The Villages are home to more than 1,500 people on any given night, including families, Veterans, and individuals who have experienced homelessness. CVC is the backbone organization for a collaborative of 12 partnering agencies, which provide residents with permanent supportive and interim housing, as well as services such as health care, job training, and benefits assistance.

“Century salutes Steve who exemplifies our values and has served as a wonderful leader, colleague, and role model,” said Brian D’Andrea, Senior Vice President of Housing at Century Housing, an affiliate of CVC. “He has guided the Villages during a time of growth and upheaval, especially during the past three years, and leaves the Villages in a strong position for continued success.”

“Steve’s legacy is community building and making lasting, important connections to strengthen our work at CVC,” said Ms. Wee. “I am excited to step into the role of executive director, having worked side-by-side with Steve for over a decade – and continuing our good work with partners on behalf of our residents.”

Ms. Wee has worked at the Villages community since 2000. Most recently, she has served as Century Housing’s vice president of residential services – a role she will hold concurrently as executive director of the Villages. She oversees a dedicated team of case managers and clinical staff who support residents at the Villages and other Century-owned properties. Her collaborative approach has strengthened and expanded CVC’s collective impact, resulting in thousands of lives being transformed.

“We are thrilled to name Kimberly as CVC’s next executive director,” said Ronald M. Griffith, President and CEO of Century Housing. “With more than 20 years of experience at the Villages, she has an incredible foundation to guide the Villages into the future.”
